How can i fix my washing machine?

My washing machine has a button that you push to start it. When you start it the lid locks so you cant open it while it is washing. The fill light was blinkig so i held the button down for 3 seconds to cancel the wash. After doing so the light went off but the washer never unlocked now i cant even get the washer to come on. I have a load of wet clother i it and cant get it on to get them out. What could cause this and how can i fix it?
