How do i fix my Hotpoint Hotpoint Ultima WMD 940 door handle?

Hotpoint Ultima WMD 940 - The door is / was stuck closed - whenever you put your hand to squeeze the handle which opens the door seems to have no spring to it. I have managed to open the door and it appears the housing, not the hook, has broken so that when the lever is squeezed the hook does not move far enough to release the door. How do I repair this ? Is it possible to dismantle the door - removed the 3 screws but it does not seem to come apart... any help or advice greatly appreciated...
