Hayter 41 throttle problem?

OK jon.
On a lot of the older mowers it is a stiff wire cable on the throttle, they are prone to sticking, so when you throttle off it just stretches the outer cable.
remove cable if needed and lubricate well.
refit.....

It’s a service job or may only need cable adjustment but you need the book to obtain correct adjustment to do it youself.

Service for my Aunts last yr 41 electric start. £125 collected and delivered including vat. Remember its not what they charge is the government take vat for doing sod all and firms are un-paid tax collectors not by choice....that’s better.... as I do take off the vat shows their price.



It may only need cable adjustment but doubtful as it’s old. The mowers ‘walk behind drive’ have first and secondary drives. Belt drive at the top as the first drive from the gearbox which is transferred to the secondary drive to operate the rear roller.


With luck it may only need cable adjustment see operators’ manual. Test the movement start the mower engage walk behind drive lift mower handle keeping dead mans handle in position. The roller may turn but if belt has snapped or is so badly stretched it won’t and once you lower mower back on to ground you will be back to ‘all revs no got’ just like a car with worn out clutch.


Now looking at the book if you think you can do it the good luck or take it to a local Hayter dealer (also obtainable in the website on the U.K site) or search for one in your neck of the woods.



Apparently according to the service agent ( he has a good reputation for the area of Worthing West Sussex ) its a common problem with these mowers.
