They don't make irons to be reparable these days - I think it's a safety thing - don't want you tinkering around inside risking electrocution and death - bad publicity and legal costs.

I used to repair the odd iron now and again but not for the past 15 or 20 years.

Usually the only way to get to the guts of the thing is to destroy it.
