ford fiesta not starting?

i have a p reg ford fiesta , when i turn the key there is a whirring sound from the engine but engine doesnt try and kick over or anything, battery is fine, was having previouse problem of car stalling on approach to junctions

may be starter pinion or ring gear fault.try rocking car in gear so that starter pinion is using a different part of ring gear, if it now starts on key,you will need to get starter and ring gear checked.

is starter motor engaging with the flywheel?.when turning the car over on the starter check the cam rotates
