Corby trouser press?

Thanks to the response by Dr. Tobin, I did the same thing. Worked beautifully! You don’t have to take off top and bottom, either — the front opening panel comes off if you just spread the closing bars a bit and unscrew the one screw on the bottom.

I have had the same issue where a good Corby press was suffering from the foam/nylon back pad failing disintegrating and sticky to the touch (yuck)!

I dismantled the top and bottom, removed the drop-down flap, removed (cleaned-off) the old material and replaced it usuing a new ironing board cover as the material, trimmed to size and stapled in place with a big upholsterer’s Stanley FatMax FMHTO 70868 staple gun (making sure to avoid the heating element). Looks fantastic.

Unfortunately once the foam pad perishes or wears out there is no replacement other than to buy a new machine. Corby explained to me that they used to take them in to replace the pad but because there are special rivets that fan out into the wood it makes it very uneconomical for them to remove these in order to set the new pad. Rather sad seeing that the machine's life expectancy is only as good as the foam in the press! Sadly a machine that is in good order has to go to the tip when only the foam pad wears out :-(
