Disconnect the engine kill wire and re-test. A problem in the rest of the mower may be grounding it. If that's not it, disconnect one coil at a time and re-test.
Just one thought - has the ignition switch been changed? and if so, has the correct type been used? Car-type switches will put battery voltage to the coil, which will fry them instantly.

I can answer this question...
john deere 425, has no spark from either coil... got any ideas?
