.edu IS the domain, just like .com is the domain for COMercial sites.

So, the address will looks like:
nameATinstitution.edu

If you want to know the physical location, it depends on where the server is located.

The domain is always designated by the characters after the last point of any address. You may have sub-domains, like .qc.ca or .on.ca for two of the Canadian provinces for example.
