shogun alarm fob battery replace?

having replaced the 3v battery in the alarm fob tried to re-sync the alarm - nothing, the red indicator neon works but not a peep from the car; put the old battery back in -the same- have tried as some suggest to put ign on etc but still no joy........ any suggestons out there please!
