Mend Battery Change Remote

Reset after battery change?

I changed the battery of my remote, but that took a few hours becose I first had to remove the old one to establisch the right type (format) of battery.
After fitting the new one, the remote didn't work anymore - I think becose it took too long.
How can I reset/reactivate the remote........?
