how do i fix the ignition light on the cannon lincon gas cooker?

i have located where the battery goes within the cooker, at the bottom on the left hand side. i changed the battery and the ignition switch still doesn't work.

i live in a rented property and the cooker was already in the house, so i want to go back to the landlord with the correct information about if it can be fixed or not.

please help, as i can't keep bending down to light the oven, pregnant and getting more and more difficult
