I switched on my mixer and experienced a foggy, smokey atmosphere when I was creaming some sugar with margarine. This has never happened before. My husband checked the plug and there were no loose wires and no signs of smoldering inside the plug. What should I do next? Is there a repair centre anywhere near where I stay in Giffnock, the southside of Glasgow? John Taylors say they do not repair appliances. What can I do? Is it safe to try putting the mixer on again?

Replace both caps and possibly the 56 ohm resistor

Did the smoke smell like marzipan if so its more than likely thespeed control or the suppression capacitors have burned up
these are comercialy available from torre electronics .but you kneed to solder them in !!

Mine has just done a similar thing. The 0.1uF capacitor on the Control board has finally broken down and needs to be replaced.
