light wiring?

i took down a ceiling fan with light.i have a ceiling light i wish to install.the light has 3 wires black,white,copper. my ceiling box has 3 cables in it one has a black,white,red,copper. the next one has a black,white,copper,the last one has a black,white,copper.i wired all the blacks together,all whites together,and al copper together, cap off red. my light works,but won't turn off. what did i do wrong in the wiring?
