how can i get the screen on my kenwood kdc-516s to turn on?

my screen light wount turn on and i cant see anything in it. so i wanted to know how i can get it to work or is it a broken screen?

I have the same problem and tried everything the manual says to do, I've checked the fuses and the reset button. I took out the cd player and the metal part has some yellow stuff on it, is that why?
