Sears Du-all 8MM/super projector - opnly reverse works?

I have a Sears Du-all and just got it out to loan a friend but when I tested it could only get the reverse mechanism to work. So can't load film because when you put switch in forward light is on but no motion takes place and none of the pullys or gears move.
