Mend T-Fal Avante Screws Case Lift

How to remove the "Start" levers?

I hav a broken T-Fal Avante. I have the screws out of the case and the "lift" knobs removed but I cannot seem to get the "start" levers off. Is there a trick? Are they held in place somehow? I've pried and pulled to the point where I think I'm going to break something... Please help
