Mend Bison Down Properly Ok

Bison stairlift will not go down properly ..everything else is all ok?

My dad has a Bison stairlift (straight). yesterday it suddenly stopped going down,,it wants to go down as it starts & stops (intermitently) whilst holding the button down but this takes forever..everything works fine ,goes up etc..can anyone please help
