the 2nd and 4th light on my hotpoint dishwasher come on during a cycle?

If the machine hasn't drained the water,check filter and drain pump,also the drainage outlet for blockages.If the water is draining Lights 2 and 4 indicate a fault in the heat circuit.
You would have to check the element and thermostat (if fitted) to see if either of them is open circuit. If they are you'll need to change them.
 
If these are ok you'll need to check the wiring in the door, especially where it goes from the base into the door.
 
Finally, if everything else checks out ok then you need to change the pcb in the door.
