Mend Diplomat Door Opened Bottom

Power cuts out as I close the door?

I have a Diplomat dishwasher. When I opened the door there was water lying in the bottom of the machine. I was going to run it empty but when I raise the door to near vertical all lights go out and the machine does not start when the door is closed.

What can be causing the power to go off?
