Mend Firecharm Gas Light Valve

Gas fire pilot will not light?

I have a Firecharm gas fire, the pilot will not light.
When lighting pilot the spark seems to spark then the gas flows but does not light. It is as if the gas valve is not opening at the right time.
Pilot will light from an external flame and stay alight and fire works well.
Any help please.
