accuspark electronic ignition mk2 escort 1600 sport?

i`ve recently had an accuspark electronic ignition and coil fitted to my escort and since fitted the car has never run right,it has been backfiring and basically just ran bad,some one suggested that i may have got the wrong coil,it is a ballast coil that was put on,i`d appreciate any information thanks steve
