Ben Sherman watch R564A?

I bought a Ben Sherman watch a month ago from the UK and bought it back to South Africa to give to my boyfriend for his birthday in a month and a half. The watch has been sitting in the box for a couple of weeks and when I checked it I noticed it had stopped working so I got the batterie changed. However a couple of days later when I checked the watch it had stopped working again but when I shook the box it started working again.
So, does anybody know if these watches need to constantly be moving around ie on your arm or is my watch faulty.
