Can I mute my Veritas house alarm?

I need to turn off the power in my house to change a light fitting, but when i do this, the alarm sounds (inside and outside), I am presuming their is a fault with the alarm as it shouldnt do this. It has batteries in the external & internal boxes. I want to know if i can mute the alarm for 10 minutes while I change the light fitting.
