engine management light "on" vauxhall astra 1.4?

vauxhall astra engine management light comes on and sometimes won't reset. When driving the engine some times misfires with the engine revs dropping to about 500 rpm.The plugs and ignition pack have been changed , any ideas

Stop wasting time & money replacing things just in the hope, spend the money on getting it onto a code reader and find the actual fault, as there will be a fault code logged to put the light on, it will work out cheaper in the long run
