How can I mend my New World Range cooker?

burning electrics smell would indicate the timer unit, you would need to disconnect fully, and remove the unit to check, as it went bang, it should be obvious as to the fault area, replace unit, several places sell unit.
Not sure with your unit, but tends to be screws along back, lift top section off, gives access to timer unit
