How can i undo my door when the catch is broken?

Every washing machine iv ever known has had a broken door handle. A tea spoon is the best way to get it open,use the handle end of the spoon,put it in the gap where the handle used to be and push the catch over,you will find once u have done it once u will be able to open it first time everytime,my washing machine is 20years old and for tha last year i havent had a handle,ive just use a spoon.
