did you connect it to the correct terminals on the new stat?.does the interior light work ok?when you switch stat off does it click to an off position and does the interior light go out?
Could be a freezer stat but does it get down to temperature to turn the stat of even if it was a fridge stat 3-4 deg is good

thermostat was faulty,got a new universal one which i have fitted and now fridge runs continuosly,maybe the replacement stat is for a freezer?.
