How can I find my damp proof course?

I am unable to see my damp proof course on the outside of my house. Would it be above or below the ventilators?

it will be below the ventilators...many times soil builds up above the DPM and u get dampness,dig down to find it...it should be a black rubbery membrane set in the brickwork, again many times dampness can be cured by simply removing soil to expose the DPM.
