Mend Syroco Clock Battery Wall

Clock battery burning?

I have an old Syroco wall clock with a battery operated movement on the back. Put in 1.5 volt battery and it began to smoke and melted the ends of the battery. Why would this happen?

How do I find the right replacement part?

Sounds like it has shorted out,you can buy new battery clock movements at model shops/craft suppliers,they are quite cheap.
