La-z-boy recliner footrest won't stay up?

I have a la-z-boy recliner footrest that goes up with the handle, but it won't stay up (lock in place) when leg weight is added. I can see all of the mechanism, but nothing looks broken or missing. Is there something I should look at regarding the piece that should hold it in different positions? Adjust some tension? other ideas?

All La-Z-Boy reclining mechanisms are under a limited lifetime warranty. If you’re the original purchaser, call Comfort Care at 877-738-8852. They will charge a service fee of around $120 to come to your home, but the parts are under warranty. La-Z-Boy invented reclining furniture nearly 100 years ago. They have the absolute best customer service and warranty in the industry

I have a pair of la-z-boy recliners that are about 12 years old. Both have always had the problem of the footrest not locking in the upright position and falling. But it has gotten progressively worse over the years. With so many people having this problem why isn't la-z-boy addressing it? This is very aggrivating!

I inherited a Lazy Boy in my home purchase from the previous owner. Same thing with the foot rest. Any weight and it would collapse while in the reclined position. I called Lazy Boy, explained my problem and they sent me free of charge the 2 pieces (pawl and arm that is attached to the piano wire) and I installed them and it didn't help the problem at all. So the more I looked things over I noticed one flat metal bar hooked to a spring attached to the front of the unit, spring on top. It then attaches to a assembly that has a racket and 2 rotating dowel pins with 2 springs that hold both dowel pins in place. This is where I thought the initial problem was because I couldn't get full extension of the foot rest to the internal metal stops. Only thing is I didn't know that bar was supposed to be straight and not bent. mine was bent at a 45 degree angle near the dowel pins/ratchet assembly. I took it all apart and straightened out the bar with my vise and re installed. This took care of the problem and my 1991 model Lazy Boy is working great again. I hope this will help someone else out. I spent hours looking for a solution with none to be found and there's plenty of foot rest not staying up issues out there.

there is a little tin cap on the edge of the lever that engages the teeth on the mechanism that holds the foot rest up. The edge of that becomes worn or the edge simply breaks off like mine has. I have not been able to find 1 yet. good luck.
