How can I make my craftsman start?

Ok I'm not sure where to start, but I have a Craftsman ys 4500 22ohv intek twin Briggs and Stratton 917276600. About a week ago I cut half my yard stopped for a break went back out and tried to start it. I got nothing but a click like it wanted to start. I thought it might be the starter. Tested it hooked the battery to it and it spun like crazy. Then I thought it was the solenoid. (I know I shouldn't do this) I took a wire hanger covered it with duck tape so i could hold it and connected the two possitives and it almost started but with the sparks I got scared and moved my hand. I bought a brand new solenoid, but it still does the same thing. I checked the seat safety its plugged in. I don't know what else it could be. PLEASE HELP! We can't afford a mechanic to charge us labor.
