Mend Daewoo Matiz Starts Cut Turn

Daewoo Matiz cutting out ?

While travelling my Daewoo Matiz starts to judder and cut out. when I turn the key it starts straight back up but when I come to slow down and put my clutch in it cuts out again. This will happen 5/6 times and it will then run fine again. It doesnt happen on every journey and I sometimes get a strong smell of fuel when it happens. any ideas?
