Renault Scenic 2006 radio problem?

Having changed the battery, tried to input the code using the satellite button, but kept going back to the 0000 stage again. I know it's the correct code because it's in the service book. Looked on the forums, and somebody said to switch on the radio whilst holding on buttons 2 and 5 simultaneously. The radio came on but I can't listen to it as it's accompanied by annoying BLEEPS every second or two. Any ideas anyone?
