It's not.

But it will give a false sense of security if nothing seems to go wrong.

As others, what system is it. When was the battery last changed/inspected?

Has the battery ever been replaced? They should be changed at least every 5 yrs , Some control panels throw up a tamper fault when the battery has had it. Turn the mains off if the system dies - change the battery. It may reset after this has been done. Hard to tell as you haven't told us what type of alarm you have.

tamper means the alarm control box or pir or bell box has been disturbed or opened.it could also indicate broken wiring
