In the Control Panel, select system and find the printer listed. Left click the printer, then right click and select delete. The dialogue box will open and caution that you are about to remove this device. Select OK, then the box will close and the printer will disappear from the list. Check to make sure that this printer does not appear twice in the list. If so, delete every instance of the printer.
Disconnect the USB cable from the computer, then restart the computer. Once the computer has restarted, plug the USB cable from the printer to the computer. With the printer turned on, the computer should recognize the printer, and install the printer and its drivers automatically.
If the installation proceeds without error, test the printer. In the Control Panel, select Printers and Faxes and double click to open a dialogue box. There is a button "print a test page". Select this option to see if the printer will print a test page. If the printer is plugged in and turned on, has paper and ink, it should successfully print a test page.
If this fails, then the printer will likely need replacement.
