Mend Starts Runs Dies

My mower starts, runs and putters and then dies?

I have checked the spark plug, cleaned the air filter, put clean gas in the tank. The mower starts but will not rev up, then dies.
What is next?

Sounds like a fuel supply problem such as dirt or blockage in the carb. Is there a filter in the fuelline ?
