Awning rail?

On a caravan a Senator wyoming the awning rail looking at it from left to right, on the right hand side there are two openings one about halve way up and another nearer the bottom.
However on the left hand side there is no opening to side a fiamma zip awning how do I put an opening is there a special tool to do this, if so what is it called,
your advice would be most welcome
