Would you explain how to replace a steering gear and quardrant?

I have just same steering problem in ride on lawn mower(John Deere L110) which David Pearce questioned on May 2009 and a man answered. But I would like to know how to replace a steering gear and quardrant as a pair in detail. How to keep front tyres hard and do I have to lie under the lawn mower to replace a gear? Please explain this job step by step and in detail.
