can i put a new plug on a garden strimmer?

i accidentally cut the wire on my garden strimmer, can i replug it - the original plug was a sealed unit fitting

Moulded on plugs are the norm with domestic appliances and tools these days - probably some health and safety legislation placed on the manufacturers. There is no restriction or safety implication on you. Just wire it properly - very probably just two wires - and use the same rating fuse as the old plug had.
