How do I replace the carbon brushes in my Qualcast Hoversafe 25?

Brushes need replacement, but I fear they are not available now. Does anyone know how many connections are required? Is it just the one lead as the carbon acts as the other? The old ones have just one connection to each brush. I'm not electrically minded but think the contact of the carbon makes the circuit.
