which one first?...ecu then coil pack?

hello peeps,..
ive bin told my ecu on mk2 2004 punto is knakkered...
the mechanic bought me new pair of coils and i used the same ecu, still same problem, car seems to be like its suffocating, cant catch speed.clutch is a bit funny, cant seem to find the real problem, BUT now if i buy a new plug n play ecu would i have to buy the coil packs brand new again?? ive just replaced them and drove the car back only a mile or 2 to break down midway to my home.....so do i buy a new coil pack ??. do i buy the ecu from any tom dick harry?...helllllllPP meeeee....one more thing,...car starts by pressing the fuel pump switch the same time i turn the ingnition,.it starts up once in gear it doesnt move, stays started but no gear would move the car..another weird issue too,...HHhhhelp MMmeeee please
