Singer Stylist 543 Sewing Machine Foot Pedal Motor Controller?

I have an old Singer Sewing Machine. Model Stylist 543. The Motor Controller/Foot Pedal when used today after many years of non usage, gave out a smell of burning. The machine operated without foot control. I have read that taking the suppressors out of the foot pedal helps this problem. I have removed the bottom cover and there appears to be two small oblong components inscribed 250v-MP fo=4.8MHz. Are these the suppressors?
