My Ford CD 6000 stereo is locked - how can I unlock it?

the serial number is V008622 and the code I've got matches with the one the Ford garage suggest. The code isn't the problem, it's the fact that it's gone straight to 'locked' without the opportunity to enter the code! Any suggestions welcome - thanks

Thanks for the reply - how do I get the stereo out to get at the code??? I manged to get the trim off but I don't have the special tools to get it out.
