Mend Icepoint 178SS Fridge Door Light

How can I fix small hole in fridge door casing?

My Icepoint 178SS has a small hole in the door casing where the light switch has punctured it. Retailer says it needs new door, but it is no longer available. Is it ok to cover the hole with plastic and seal it?
