Pannasonic DMR500H?

I canot DUB from a thumbnail ie a movie onto a DVD-R disc,The unit can,t read the disc+for me to put a recordable one into the machine,Although the unit can only write to DVD-R I have tried brand new discs diffrent makes of DVD-R discs+Tried a disc cleaner,no joy any tips?
