Mend Stannah 260 Going Replace Seized

Stannah 260 not going up?

I have a Stannah 260 and have just had to replace the bearings on the bottom track arm as they were seized. since re-siting the chair it will not go up more than a couple of mm withoout stopping. On the pcb a red light appears on no.3 on the bottom right side of the board (they are numbered 1- 9). in order to go up or down again, I have to turn off the chair and turn it on again. Going down is fine (although it seems a little fast - could be due to new bearings). Can anyone offer any advice. I would be very grateful.

I had the same problem with my Stannah 260 the power light on the arm was ok but it would only go up for a bit then it would stop at the curves on the track (where the carriage starts to ascend the stairs and when it gets to the top where it comes to a level part of the track on the landing) I downloaded the wiring diagrams from the internet so being a former electronics engineer I thought I would attempt a repair myself. on my stairlift I found a break in the cables that go to the "left skate safety switches" grey wires on my lift but there is also two purple wires for the skate switches on the right side.
if you are experiencing faults where the lift stops at random then it would be a good first step to check all of the safety edge switches and associated wiring.

Is it easy to change the battery to the Stannah stairlift model 260

I have installed the 260 and powered up the batteries. They are showing 13.6 volts each. The green light doesn't light up when the switch is turned on and the chair doesn't move. Any ideas?

Could you tell me if the main power feed is on the lower pipe of the gear track is that the one that goes to the ac adapter and if so where does the other end connect We moved this from another house and we are trying to frabrecate it to fit one straight 15 step landing to landing,

Hi. My model 260 will not move unless some weight is reduced off the chair by pushing foot on stair then it will start. Is there a micro switch not closing somewhere maybe or ? ideas? I am thinking its something to do with the chair rotation with weight on it. thanks

What a brilliant site. I too have an issue with my 260.

I have been on holiday for 2 weeks and it seems the stairlift has lost power (the charging point is at the top of the stairs)

I tried winding it up alas the winder appears not to work either. When you power it on the power light blinks on very dimly for a split second which makes me think its the battery. Can i pop them out and use 12v charger to power them back up?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your reply. I will need to get my electrician brother to look at the ampage draw from the motor. I have determined that the led 3 light would light up when the lift stalls or draws too much power. Do you think this is likely to be a pcb problem. My electronics knowledge is next to nothing, but may be a resistor or capacitor has blown. Oh by the way we replaced the batteries as a first point of call and the problem is still the same.

Many thanks

hi .........being a ex-stannah stairlift engineer i have never come across replacing bearing on the pinion drive/motor? replaced the motor/gearbox quite a few times though........anyway if the stairlift has been off the rail for any lenght of time, that means the main carriage batteries have not been getting a charge...put the stairlift on a charge point for 24hrs and then test the 2 x 12v batteries individualy in the carriage if either of them fall below 11volts they probably need replacing[most stairlift batteries only last between 3-5 years]also you said the stairlift seems faster coming down,if you got a clamp meter, clamp the blue and brown motor wires next to the main pcb in carriage to see what amps the motor is pulling it should start of upto 16 amps then drop down to 5 to 7 amps in both directions, regards
