I've just bought my first caravan, and its not the newest of vans. But the wiring looks like its been bodged!! The only way to charge the lesuire battery is through a trickle charger. What do I need to get so that I can just plug the caravan in to the mains and be able to use the 240v side and keep the battery charging for the 12v side? And where could I get an internal wiring diagram for the electrics to go over the set up?

Try Swift they may give you a wire diagram and also tell you what else like an MCB and what type of charger and battery to use. A car battery is false economy so don't use one for cheapness as they don't like the continual charge / discharge. If you do a complete wireup job then get it certified by electrician for insurance they may insist you do
