A few random thoughts, in no particular order.
Check the menu button on the remote and on the TV's own control panel aren't stuck down
Try to see if the set is responding to command from the remote or from the TV's panel: If you have a digital camera, use this to look at the 'business end' of the remote (Digital cameras are sensitive to show Infra Red light).
The IR LED in the remote will show up on the camera viewer. You should only see a light when a remote button is pressed. If there's a light showing without any button being pressed, the remote is trying to send continuously.
There's not another remote i nth eroom (Sky, All-In-One, etc) capable of controlling the TV and, maybe, the cat is sat on it?
