Mend Honda Lead 102 Metal Plate Top

Honda lead 102cc 2005?

took the metal plate off the top of the carburettor and the spring popped out.Thought I put it back ok but since then I have lost a lot of acceleration.

Why because it wouldnt start..was gonna spray the carb. No expert(obviously)but its with a rubber diaphragm and underneath is a needle for the carb...its for taking in air and I presume I've upset the balance.I seem to put it back ok but no joy.

1st, I would ask WHY!
Then, what else popped out with the spring??
The spring would have some part under pressure.
