the door mechanism is not operating it seems to have become disconnected as the handle flops back and forward. is there a way to open the door mechanically so I can have a look at it?

I used some fishing twine and looped it around the circumference of the door, keeping it tight as i did so.Then, I pulled it as hard as i could with my hand at the point of the door hinge. this had the effect of hooking the twine onto the door latch and with some pressure, drawing the latch open.

I bought a new door handle for £10.00 from Zanussi spares.
